  • Introduction

    When students have learning challenges, it can be difficult to determine why. Learn how to distinguish between a learning disability, low ability, and low literacy.  Acquire knowledge about different types of learning disabilities.  Gain information about students with low ability and valuable resources.  Understand the complicated nature of learning for students from other cultures.  You will learn about specific tools to help understand learning differences and learn methods to improve instruction for all students. 

    This course is intended to meet Continuing Education Unit (CEU) requirements for modifying and adapting curricula, materials, and strategies to appropriately meet the individual needs of students.  Teachers who complete all units, including the course quiz and evaluation will receive three state approved CEUs.  Final approval of CEUs is granted by local re-licensure committees operating in K-12 public school districts.  

    Approximate time to complete course:  3 hours. 

    Course objectives:

    • Acquire knowledge about different types of learning disabilities and symptoms
    • Gain information about students with low ability and obtain valuable resources
    • Understand the complicated nature of ESL student learning
    • Discover tools to help distinguish between all 3 L’s
    • Learn methods to improve instruction for all students
